From 12 May to 18 May 2025, we will be celebrating Neighbourhood House (NH) Week alongside all the other incredible Neighbourhood Houses across Australia. This year’s theme is “Ripples of Change”.
In the words of the Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA),
“Every action, no matter how small, has the power to create a ripple effect – spreading kindness, sparking ideas and strengthening communities".
We see examples of this everyday here at MRFEC, whether it’s one of our incredible students bringing sweets to share with their classmates (and the office team!) or our tutors going above and beyond for their classes. To celebrate we are hosting a Donation Drive for the incredible Gisborne Foodbank! For one week we are going to be calling for our community's assistance more than ever before, to support this important cornerstone of our town. Donations of household staples such as the following are requested, as well as anything else big or small that can be spared:
Vegemite
Peanut butter
Coffee
Tea
Milo
Pasta sauce
Rice
Tinned fruit
Tinned vegetables
Breakfast cereals
Childrens lunchbox snacks i.e. muesli bars
Toilet paper
Shampoo and conditioner
Toothpaste
Soap.
'Seas’ the day and help us to create a ripple effect that reaches those in our community who need it!
While this drive is currently only on between the 12th and 18th of May, Gisborne Foodbank accept donations year-round. They are open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm (entry is via Heritage Way at the rear of the Uniting Church in Gisborne). If you need support, don't hesitate to contact them on their mobile # 0492 850 520.
Interested in donating? They not only accept food and toiletries, but also accept cash donations which are then used to purchase food. Every donation will help!
If you would like to donate cash you can do so directly to their bank account:
